Event Trends 2025: What’s In, What’s Out – But Does It Really Matter?

Writer: Mara EventsMara Events

Trends come and go, but your style is forever. It’s easy to get caught up in what’s “in” for events, but the most unforgettable celebrations are the ones that truly reflect you. While we’ll highlight some trends for 2025, let’s talk about how to make them work for your personal style—because the best way to be trendy is to be timeless.

What’s In for 2025?

Nature-Inspired & Sustainable Celebrations

Designs are embracing both seasonal beauty and sustainability. Think cotton linens, wildflowers, and lush garden-style arrangements in spring and summer, while winter events lean into dark woods, deep greens, and romantic lighting. Couples are also prioritizing eco-conscious choices, from locally sourced flowers and organic fabrics to reusable décor and digital invitations. Mimicking nature's seasons creates a vibe that feels effortless and elegant.

Themed Celebrations – A True Reflection of Style

Themed events aren’t just trendy—they’re a way to showcase personality and style in a meaningful way. Whether it’s a wedding, a sweet sixteen, or any milestone celebration, the theme should reflect the host’s interests, creating an experience that feels uniquely theirs.

Imagine a Cinderella-themed sweet sixteen. Instead of just sprinkling blue and silver decorations, we went all out—creating a boutique-style display featuring a replica of the exact Cinderella gown from the movie, which the birthday girl got to keep after modeling it for Disney. It was more than décor; it was a moment that made the event unforgettable.

A great theme isn’t just about colors or decorations—it’s about weaving the host’s personality into every element, making the event feel timeless and personal.

Reinventing Classic Flowers

For years, wedding florals have been dominated by roses and pampas grass, but sophisticated classics like calla lilies are making a comeback. These flowers were once everywhere in traditional weddings, but now, paired with modern, minimalist designs and candlelit settings, they feel high-class and fresh again.

What’s Out (or Needs a Refresh)

Overdone Photobooth Backdrops

We love a good photo op, but the standard photobooth backdrop? Not so much. Photobooths have been around for a while, and while they’re not going anywhere, it’s time to elevate the experience. Instead of the standard 8x8 flat backdrop, high-end events are transforming entire spaces with dramatic draping and floral installations as photo opportunities. Luxurious fabrics, rich textures, and intentional lighting create a stunning setting for professional photographers to capture high-quality images that guests will actually want to post. Think of it as a curated photography experience—where every shot is Instagram-worthy, blending event design and storytelling in a way that feels personal and upscale.

Single-Use Decor

Let’s think outside the box when it comes to event décor and make elements more versatile. Take the giant Styrofoam name cutouts beneath the 16-candle lighting display at Sweet Sixteens—why not upgrade to something more modern and reusable? A better alternative is 3D-printed names or acrylic signage that the celebrant can later use as room décor or a keepsake. This way, the tradition stays alive while adding a touch of sustainability and personalization.

The Best Trend? Making It Yours.

Instead of blindly following trends, take inspiration and make it personal. Here’s an example: A bride wanted a garden-inspired wedding and considered a flower bar. While beautiful, she worried it felt more like a bridal shower activity. So, we reimagined it:

Floral tea bag favors with personalized notes, doubling as an escort card. Or edible flower garnishes in signature mocktails.

The key? Taking a trend you love and reshaping it into something that actually fits you and your event.

At the end of the day, the most stylish events aren’t the ones that follow trends perfectly. They’re the ones that feel timeless, thoughtful, and uniquely yours. Trends may change, but when you look back at photos of your event, your wedding, your Sweet Sixteen, your style should always remain recognizably you.
